Takagi and Nishikata are back to their same old routine。 Or are they？Well， rest assured that the structure of this series remains as baked in as the dirty dishes in my sink when I was in university。 The context， however， has slowly been altering and this gives this volume a bit of the punch the series has needed。Takagi’s efforts are now totally in service to getting Nishikata to admit he likes her or expressing her own feelings and he’d be a lot happier if he wasn’t stuck in his head obsessing o Takagi and Nishikata are back to their same old routine。 Or are they？Well， rest assured that the structure of this series remains as baked in as the dirty dishes in my sink when I was in university。 The context， however， has slowly been altering and this gives this volume a bit of the punch the series has needed。Takagi’s efforts are now totally in service to getting Nishikata to admit he likes her or expressing her own feelings and he’d be a lot happier if he wasn’t stuck in his head obsessing over how to beat her， but that’s Nishikata for you。And this turns out to be a lot of fun。 Takagi is utterly ruthless during the fan chapter， which involves a hilarious bit of lateral thinking that I wish I had seen coming but was even smarter for it。 It definitely destroys Nishikata’s plan to get her to say ‘cold’， which is so poorly considered that it’s hard to tell if it’s the translation’s fault or Nishikata’s general lack of skill。The best chapter is easily the first of two library stories， which features both Nishikata’s dubious choice of reading material （it’s an age and skill level dig that once more left me feeling seen…）。 But then Takagi has a joke that is so perfectly timed and well written that I burst out laughing。 It is further capped off by a wonderful little revelation， shame Nishikata can’t pick up on it。There are a couple dud stories。 Besides giving a likely glimpse into married life for these two， the bag inspection chapter isn’t much of anything。 Likewise， the summer vacation chapter is reasonably sweet but super obvious from the get-go。 The balance is definitely tilted towards quality， thankfully。3。5 stars， rounded up because of my generally easily toyed with emotions。 It’s an above average entry， buoyed by leaning harder into its youthful romance while sacrificing none of its comedy。 Sometimes that little nudge is all it takes。 。。。more
